Bernard Goldberg

1994 Lifetime Achievement Award

Bernard Goldberg was principal flutist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra from 1947 to 1993. Previously, he was principal flute of the Cleveland Orchestra. He is currently a member of the faculties of Brooklyn College Conservatory in New York and Catholic University in Washington, D.C. Mr. Goldberg has been a soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony and the Casals, Marlboro, Edinburgh, and Mostly Mozart festivals. He has toured extensively as a recitalist with the Musica Viva Trio, and has given numerous recitals in New York, notably at Carnegie Recital Hall and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Among his recordings are releases with the Musica Viva Trio, the Audubon Quartet, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and the Casals Festival. Among others, he has studied with Georges Barrère, Marcel Moyse and Pablo Casals. He served as president of the NFA from 1974 to 1975 and is this year’s co-recipient of the NFA’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
