Thank you to the more than 3,000 people from 39 countries who joined us in sunny San Diego for the 44th Annual NFA Convention August 10–14.

The event hosted an engaging lineup of artists performing in evening gala concerts and dozens of concerts and recitals each day. World premieres this year included four NFA-commissioned works. Honored were 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award recipients Katherine Hoover and James Pellerite. The sounds of chamber music—strings, voices, and the entire woodwind family—wafted through and among the indoor-outdoor spaces at the flower-bedecked Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, adding to the usual vast plethora of flutes annually celebrated in our August event. Workshops in everything from health to career and performance tips, breakfasts, lunches, and dinners shared among renowned flutists and friendships old and new, and a bustling exhibits hall kept conventioneers busy from dawn to midnight (and beyond)—and a new convention app helped them find their way throughout. The closing concert included performances by the week’s highlighted artists—plus two piccolo quartets—and ended, as always, with an auditorium full of flutists performing Bach’s Air. Discover (or remember) more in our annual Convention Chronicles and via NFA social media. Thank you to 2016 Program Chair John Bailey and Assistant Program Chair Nicaulis Alliey for planning a spectacular convention—and thank you for joining us. See you next near in Minneapolis!
