Kirameki Flute Ensemble Flute choir Showcase

The Kirameki Flute Ensemble performed with outstanding guest soloist Nobutaka Shimizu, former student of Julius Baker and principal flute of the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra. Flute Concerto by Otaka and arranged for flute choir by Kanda was an interesting piece that highlighted Shimizu’s technical facility. Other pieces on the program were the first movement from Divertimento No. 3 by Mozart, arr. by Sasaki, and an arrangement of Japanese Folk Songs by Koji Uno, which featured a different soloist from the flute ensemble on each of the songs. The visual presentation of the group was also impressive, with members of the ensemble dressed in their finery, with a mix of ball gowns, traditional Japanese costumes, and more traditional concert attire.
