Anniversaries: Peter, Claude, Lili, and Joe

This recital featured brilliant performances of works by Boulanger, Debussy, Rossini, and Tchaikovsky as the NFA observed and honored those lost in years relevant to 2018. Flutists performing were Michel Bellavance, Nicole Esposito, Virginia Broffitt Kunzer, Patricia Nagle, and Nina Perlove and Karen McLaughlin Large, Sarah Jane Young, Elizabeth Robinson, Ellen Johnson Mosley, and Katherine Emeneth in the flute quintet Les Cinq. Collaborative pianists were Jasmin Arakawa, Cameron Hofmann, and Cheryl Tennant Humes.

Works performed include “La Cenerentola: Fantaisie élégante sur un thème de Rossini” by Jean Remusat and arranged by Thies Roorda; Lili Boulanger’s “Corege,” “D’un matin de printemps,” and “Nocturne”; Claude Debussy’s “La fille aux cheveux de lin” (arranged by  David H. Bailey), “L’Isle joyeuse” (Alexandre Gasparov), and “Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune” (Donald Peck); and the Canzonetta: Andante movement of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35, arranged by V. Glinsky-Safronov).
