Flute Lover’s Luncheon

Tabatha Easley, Valerie Coleman, Cynthia Rugolo, and Elizabeth Krone

This year’s guest speaker at the annual luncheon was composer/flutist Valerie Coleman. The luncheon opened with a performance of Coleman’s “Umoja” arranged for flute quartet. Umoja, which means “unity” in Swahili, is the first day of Kwanzaa. This new arrangement was performed earlier this year at the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention. Quartet members were Coleman[-Page], Tabatha Easley, Cynthia Rugolo, and Elizabeth Krone.

Coleman spoke about how flutists are using their talents to change the world, from leadership and organizational levels to working with humanitarian issues. She provided an example of a flutist working with the victims of sex trafficking and offered ideas to those attending the luncheon.

This ticketed luncheon is hosted by the Adult Flutist and Amateur Resources Committee.
