iRest/Yoga Nidra

Boise State flute professor Nicole Molumby spent the first hour of Sunday morning teaching session participants about how she has integrated meditation into her university flute studio. Her friend and yoga teacher Tanya Penny assisted with the class via pre-recorded videos that took participants through a technique called iRest and a 20-minute relaxation. iRest has been used successfully to help suffers of chronic pain, PTSD, insomnia, and depression.

iRest Yoga Nidra is a method of relaxation and meditation used to combat negativity, calm the nerves, and deal with the stress of every day life. Tanya Penny met monthly with the Boise State flute studio to learn how to perform more confidently and calmly. The students responded with enthusiasm and were excited each time Penny visited. Penny recorded guided meditations that the students could use outside of the class, and many reported developing a regular meditative practice and the ability to approach performances from a better emotional state.
