Gala Concerto Concert

Walter Auer

Ransom Wilson and Clyde Mitchell ably conducted the Pacific Coast Chamber Orchestra as they performed with the evening’s soloists. Göran Marcusson performed Mozart’s Concerto in G, K. 313, exhibiting a wide range of dynamics and his playful nature with the cadenzas, particularly in the first movement. Following the first movement, the audience burst into spontaneous applause.

Two beautiful piccolo performances of world premieres followed the Mozart: Jennifer Gunn performed the Concerto in Three Movements for piccolo by Ken Benshoof and Linda Toote performed  Martin Amlin’s In Memoriam C.D.H., a tribute in memory of piccolist and NFA board member Carl David Hall. Trudy Kane then performed the somber Concerto Elegia by Ellen Taaffe Zwillich. Next, Adrianne Greenbaum performed her arrangement of Klezmer Medley on a variety of historic flutes and piccolo. She knocked it out of the park with a vibrant, virtuosic, and fun performance.

Rounding out the program was Walter Auer, principal flutist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Reinecke’s Concerto in D Major, Op. 283.
