Professional Flute Choir Concert

Winners of the Professional Flute Choir Competition performed two world premieres and an NFA premiere as well as standards in flute choir repertoire. Performed was Kelly Via’s Appalachian Suite, Nancy Nourse’s Fantasia on a Newfoundland Folk Tune, Mexico Mágico by Ruben Flores, the world premiere of Scarborough Fair, arranged by Nickel, Chaconne (for two antiphonal flute choirs) by Vaughan McAlley, and the NFA premiere of Daniel Dorff’s Fireworks. The world premiere of Daniel Kessner’s Concerto Grosso featured soloists on each member of the flute family, from piccolo to contrabass flute. The soloists were Peter Sheridan, contrabass flute, and the members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s flute section: Sarah Jackson, piccolo; Denis Bouriakov, flute; Catherine Ransom Karoly, alto flute; and Elise Henry, bass flute.
