National High School Flute Choir

The program for the National High School Flute Choir, directed by Kelly Via, included the world premiere of Kelly Via’s Fanfare 36, a wonderful opener; The Magic Flute Overture by Mozart, arranged by Nancy Nourse; Kathleen Mayne’s Suite No. 2; the NFA premiere of Winter Ride, by Melvin Lauf, Jr.; There Is No Rose, by Z. Randall Stroope, arranged by Phyllis Avidan Louke; Sylvan Suite, by John W. N. Palmer, and Jupiter, The Bringer of Jollity from The Planets, by Gustav Holst, arranged by Rick Pierce. The students exhibited solid technique and maturity on the technically demanding selections, and were expressive and beautiful when warranted.
