Professional Flute Choir

The Professional Flute Choir, conducted by Steven Byess

The program for the Professional Flute Choir, conducted by Steven Byess, included three movements from The Birds, by Respighi, arranged by Brian Luce; Imaginings, by Melvin Lauf, Jr.; Venus, Bringer of Peace from The Planets, by Gustav Holst, arranged by Rick Pierce; Lawrence Ink’s Serenade for Flute Nonette; and Christopher Caliendo’s Swing and Sing. I performed on contrabass flute on this concert. My favorite piece on the program was the three-movement Serenade by Ink, which was interesting, rhythmic, and had some beautiful melodies woven through all three movements to unify the work. To open the final Gala Concert, the Professional Flute Choir also performed Under the Sun, by Peter Senchuk, with guest soloist Jim Walker and the rhythm section of Free Flight.
