Do I need to be a member of the NFA to attend the annual convention?
Yes, you must have an NFA membership (current in August of the convention year) in order to register. You can sign up or renew your membership here.
Why should I register in advance for the convention?
Advance convention registration is quick, easy, and offered to you at a special rate. We encourage you to register for the convention before the advance registration deadline. After that, you may register for an additional fee of $35 at the convention site.
Where can I learn more about this year’s convention?
Both the convention schedule and a complete list of works to be performed at the convention can be found here, and our website features an overview of convention activities, hotel and travel logistics, and competition updates. We also encourage you to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute preconvention alerts and live updates throughout the convention itself.
Do you offer financial assistance or scholarships for the convention?
Yes. The Frances Blaisdell Convention Scholarship provides financial assistance to a U.S. student to attend the NFA convention. Are there any ticketed events?
Yes. In addition to regular programming, the NFA convention also offers three special ticketed mealtime events that you may attend. The Flute Lovers’ Lunch, Food for the Day's Journey, and the Gala Awards Dinner provide excellent opportunities to hear renowned speakers and deepen your social and musical connections. Tickets to these events must be purchased in advance.
Where can I download the convention program book for past conventions?
The previous convention program books can be downloaded from here. You can also visit our Convention Handout Archive for materials from past conventions, or check out the Convention Chronicles to read firsthand accounts of lectures and events from conventions dating back to 2005.
Can I volunteer at the convention?
Yes, convention volunteers are both needed and appreciated. You will also receive a $10 cash rebate for every three events worked. You can work as many or as few events as you wish. Simply check the volunteer interest box during the registration process and you will be contacted by the volunteer coordinators. If you have any questions, contact the NFA Office.
How do I perform at the convention?
You may submit a proposal to perform at the convention. Proposals must be submitted via our online system, and we encourage you to check our website for more information when submissions open in September.
Are there opportunities to perform at the convention without submitting a proposal?
Yes. The convention offers dozens of participatory events to which you are encouraged to bring your flute and join in. The program contains a diverse offering of participatory masterclasses, reading sessions, movement events, and more.
