Nearly 40 groups, committees, and appointments—all led by volunteers—comprise the heart and energy of the National Flute Association. Rotating chairs are leading practitioners in baroque, jazz, piccolo, low flutes, chamber and classical music, pedagogy, performance health, and many other areas. Among them, committee members have produced historic recordings of legendary flute musicians, books filled with the best writing by leading pedagogues and performers, and other organizational periodicals and publications. Annually they create a world-renowned convention, appoint prestigious commissions to leading and emerging composers, award prizes to todays’ and tomorrow’s flute performers and scholars, serve as liaisons with hundreds of flute clubs annually and internationally, and provide other services to support, encourage, and engage flutists and flute music.
