LIMITED QUANTITIES AVAILABLE. Albert Tipton entered the Curtis Institute of Music as a student of William Kincaid at the age of 14. After serving in several symphonies including the Philadelphia Orchestra, he began his 10-year term in 1946 as principal flutist with the St. Louis Symphony. He was the first flutist with the Aspen Music Festival and School, where he remained for 36 years. He taught at Florida State University and then joined the new Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston as professor and chair of its artist faculty, where he served until his retirement in 1990. This 1994 CD features works by J.S. Bach (Partita in A Minor, Sonata No. 1 in B Minor), C.P.E Bach (Sonata in G Major), and Frederick the Great (Sonata in G Minor) along with works by Harold Laudenslager, Isang Yun, Ernst Dohnanyi, and Claude Debussy (Syrinx).
