Albert Tipton became principal flutist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington while still a student of William Kincaid at the Curtis Institute of Music, the youngest to hold that position in a major symphony in the U.S. During his year with the Philadelphia Orchestra, he performed under Toscanini, Reiner, and Ormandy, among others. He served as principal flutist with the St. Louis Symphony for 10 years and with the Aspen Music Festival and School for 36 years. He was professor of flute and chair of the artist faculty at the newly formed Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston. This 1995 CD features works for flute and piano by Poulenc, Enesco, and Prokofieff. Tipton performs with his wife, Mary Norris, a fellow Curtis graduate and artist with the Aspen Music Festival and Rice University
