The Flute Clubs Committee is excited to connect with you now, at the convention, and in the future! The committee was founded in 2017 to support you, the leaders and members of local flute clubs, choirs, and organizations.

Since its founding, the committee has been active in providing resources such as a virtual rehearsal guide, a list and video of technologies to help manage your flute club, several convention events, and a database of flute clubs and choirs. You can find these resources on our committee web page

If you are looking for a way to spread the word about your organization, consider submitting a short description of your club or event to be included in our “Across the Miles” section of The Flutist Quarterly. You can submit information to be considered here

If you are looking for a way to get involved with the NFA and are passionate about flute clubs and choirs, we welcome you to join our committee! To join, contact Hilary Janysek at nfafluteclubscommittee@gmail.com, or meet us at the convention!

This year, the committee will be hosting several exciting convention events that we hope to see you at! All times are listed in CST.

  • Thursday, August 11, 3:30–4:30 p.m. at the NFA Committee Booth in the Exhibit Hall: Tips for Flute Choirs. Join the FCC in sharing strategies for building and expanding your flute choir—bring your administrative questions!

  • Friday, August 12, 9:00–10:00 a.m. at DePaul’s historic Merle Reskin Theatre, The Theater School, DePaul University: Mindful Flute Choir Warm-Up Session. This refreshing flute choir warm-up session will use morning meditation to establish our present, intentional, and non-judgmental awareness for playing music together. Attendees should bring their music stands and instruments of choice (flute, alto, bass, or contrabass). Led by Dr. Mihoko Watanabe.

  • Friday, August 12, 11:30–12:30 p.m. at Reskin Theatre: A Look Behind the Conductor's Stand. Learn about the preparation that goes into conducting, from planning a concert program to planning your rehearsals. Then we'll put the various conducting patterns into practice. Led by Gail Green.

  • Saturday, August 13, 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. at the NFA Committee Booth in the Exhibit Hall: Tips for Flute Clubs. Join the FCC in sharing strategies for building and expanding your flute club—bring your administrative questions!

  • Saturday, August 13, 4:30–5:30 p.m. at Grand Tradition: Flute Ensemble Conductors Meet Up. Come meet with other flute choir leaders to make new connections and learn from one another in a fun and relaxed social setting!

  • Sunday, August 14, 12:30–1:30 p.m. at Boulevard B/C: Celebrating and Evolving Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Our Flute Organizations. Join flute club leaders across the U.S. as we celebrate and continue discussions about progress related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in regional flute organizations, highlighting innovative ways that they are working to evolve diversity, equity, and inclusion in their flute community. Panelists are Kristin Bacchiocchi-Stewart, Brian Dunbar, Mariana Gariazzo, Hilary Janysek, and Christian Lampkin, representing Umoja as Vice-Chair.

We’d love to hear from you! If you’d like to join our committee or would like to engage in a discussion, please email us at nfafluteclubscommittee@gmail.com.

We look forward to connecting with you soon!
