  • Promotes collegiality and embodies integrity.
  • Draws strength from our diversity and provides meaningful experiences to all members.
  • Promotes flute performance, pedagogy, and development by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas.
  • Enriches the repertoire for the flute through commissioning, special publications, and related activities.
  • Inspires and cultivates personal, professional, and artistic excellence.

Statement on Violence and Discrimination Against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders

The National Flute Association stands in solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community as it faces a terrible new wave of violent hate crimes, racism, and discrimination.

Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are an integral part of the NFA community and all aspects of life in the US.  The NFA is dedicated to fighting racism as part of its long-term commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in our own organization, and in supporting our members to do the same.

The hate discrimination, bias, and violence must stop, and the NFA and our community will work tirelessly to this end.

Black Lives Matter.

The National Flute Association stands with Black flutists in mourning the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery and speaking out against these outrageous acts of aggression. We are committed to working together for racial justice and equity in the flute community and the country as a whole.

We can and must do more.

NFA Statement of Ethics

The National Flute Association is committed to fostering an environment in which every employee; every active, life, student, and commercial member; and every guest artist is treated with courtesy, fairness, and mutual respect. We ask our members to maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and personal integrity, and we promote conditions that ensure the rights, safety, and well-being of all people involved in the association’s activities.

NFA Statement of Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The NFA is an organization in which flutists from all backgrounds can come together for inspiration and for cultivating personal, professional, and artistic excellence. We foster a climate of mutual respect and empathy among our staff and members (active, life, student, and commercial) by nurturing an atmosphere that promotes equal opportunity and prohibits discriminatory practices and treatment.

The NFA welcomes people of all races, ethnicities, religions, creeds, national origins, gender identities, sexual orientations, physical abilities, ages, and social, economic, and educational backgrounds. We celebrate our differences and welcome a broad range of ideas, experiences, viewpoints, and intellectual approaches because they allow us to grow and create a vibrant, inclusive community.
