Beloved Community | A Chamber Music Gala | Gala Concerto Concert | A Call to Unity

Each evening, convention attendees gather together for show stopping concerts featuring leading flutists from around the world. Admission to these concerts is included with your convention registration. Single-event tickets are available for guests who are not registered for the convention.

THURSDAY:

Beloved Community

 

Thursday, Aug. 7 | 8-10pm | Centennial Ballroom

The Beloved Community Gala celebrates the flute in all its facets—spanning modern, folk, jazz, rock, and beyond. Valerie Coleman and the Atlanta Flute Choirs will perform a world premiere of an NFA-commissioned work by Nicole Chamberlain. The program continues with a dynamic lineup of artists including Philippe Barnes, Burak Besir, Tilmann Dehnhard, Robert DickMelissa Keeling, Ramakrishnan KumaranTadeu Coelho, Daniel Pardo, Elena Pinderhughes, Pablo Salcedo, Matthias Ziegler, and more!

A Chamber Music Gala

Friday, Aug. 8 | 8-10pm | Centennial Ballroom

This exhilarating evening features internationally-acclaimed flutists Wissam Boustany, Julin Cheung, Nora Lee Garcia, Sonja Giles, Nicola Mazzanti, Dylan Masariego, Sarah Miller, Kim Scott-Strickland, and Alexa Still. This program showcases works by Efraín Amaya, Ian Clarke, Dave Heath, André Jolivet, Mariano Morales, Mike Mower, and Matt Smith. Support provided by Carolyn Nussbaum Music Company. Gala Concerto Concert

Saturday, Aug. 9 | 8-10pm | Centennial Ballroom
The highlight of every convention - an all-concerto concert where world-class soloists share the stage with a full orchestra. Julietta Curenton performs Niiji Memories by James Lee III; Gaspar Hoyos premieres Ransom Wilson’s orchestration of Carlos Guastavino’s Introducción y Allegro; Silvia Careddu performs C.P.E. Bach’s Concerto in D minor; Magali Mosnier presents the U.S. premiere of Concerto for Flute in G Major by Claude Arrieu (Marie-Louise Simon); and Stefán Ragnar Höskuldsson performs Lowell Liebermann’s Flute Concerto No. 2, Op. 142, Ransom Wilson and Raimundo Pineda, conductors. SUNDAY:

A Call to Unity Closing Concert & Ceremonies

Sunday, Aug. 10 | 4-6pm | Centennial Ballroom

Join us as we bring the convention to a close with an inspiring program showcasing a wide range of artists, genres, and styles, highlighting the flute’s many voices in a stirring Call to Unity. Performances by the International Suzuki Flute Ensemble, Marco Granados, Zane Heisey-GroveAmanda Harberg with the U.S. Army Wind Quintet, Sooah Jeon and Melody Shen, Sarah Miller and the Low Flute Choir, the NFA Professional Flute Choir, and the Closing Flute Orchestra performing world premieres of works by Nicole Chamberlain, Paige Dashner LongJonathan Cohen, and an NFA-commissioned piece by Tilmann Dehnhard*. The celebration culminates in a traditional mass performance of J. S. Bach’s Air, open to all flutists—bring your flutes of every size and join this joyful finale! Support provided by Wm. S.
