The High School Flute Choir Competition will select high school flutists to perform in the High School Flute Choir conducted by Christina Steffen at the 2022 NFA Convention in Chicago. All entrants must have been full-time students enrolled in an accredited institution during the 2021-2022 academic year in grades 9-12 or the equivalent and between the ages of 14 and 19 on the first day of the convention. Entrants may be required to show proof of age.
All entrants must play the C flute selection. Entrants wishing to perform on piccolo must include the corresponding repertoire below. Entrants chosen to participate in the High School Flute Choir at convention may be requested to perform on alto and/or bass flute. Demonstrating proficiency on either or both instruments may increase your chances of being accepted into the ensemble. Accepted students will be asked to play an alto or bass flute if they have access to one or if their private teachers have access to one.Participants of the virtual 2020 and 2021 High School and Collegiate Flute Choirs will have the opportunity to join a live ensemble of their own at the Chicago convention in 2022. These participants, assuming they have remaining eligibility, may still audition for the appropriate 2022 flute choir, and they will be able to participate in both choirs if they are accepted into a 2022 ensemble.
All entrants must submit their entry, upload recordings/supplemental materials, and pay competition and membership fees by 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time, Tuesday, February 15, 2022.
