A two-year commitment
"I joined the NFA Board as interim Treasurer in the summer of 2024, and it has been such a meaningful way to reconnect with and support the NFA community. I’m inspired and invigorated by the can-do energy and commitment of this organization to bettering the experience of as many flutists as possible. I come to the organization as a flutist, a composer, an educator, and an arts administrator, but most importantly as a listener and a learner. I am grateful for my time in the NFA because of the connection to so many thoughtful, wise, and passionate advocates for the flute, and I look forward to continuing to support the organizational strategy and rigor of its work."
A two-year commitment; will serve one year as Assistant Secretary and the following year as Secretary.
"I’m deeply honored to be considered for the role of Assistant Secretary and thankful for the opportunity to serve this remarkable organization. I first attended the NFA Convention as an undergraduate and have been inspired ever since by the artistry, innovation, and community the NFA fosters. Serving on the board would be a meaningful opportunity to give back to an organization that has significantly shaped my growth. I’ve previously served as Junior Flute Competition Coordinator and have contributed to the Career and Artistic Development Committee, Youth Day Committee, and the Young Artist Mentorship Program. If elected, I am committed to supporting and inspiring the next generation of flutists while helping advance the NFA’s mission and future."

Born in Brooklyn, New York in the Little Caribbean neighborhood, conductor, radio host, educator and flutist Adam Eccleston has gained international recognition as a soloist, recitalist, chamber and orchestral musician. He has conducted ensembles in Panama, Dominican Republic, Belize, Canada and throughout the U.S. Adam has been awarded top prizes in competitions for which he was featured at Carnegie Hall and Kurhaus Wiesbaden in Germany. He was the Artist-in-Residence for All Classical Radio for two years and currently sits as Chair of the Recording Inclusivity Initiative, which brings to light the music of underrepresented composers. As a radio host and producer for All Classical Radio, Adam also guest hosts for the Young Artist Showcase on WQXR in New York City.
During his earlier years, Adam studied with flutist William Bennett in England at the age of 15 and was later hand selected by Sir James Galway to study in Switzerland at 19 years old. He holds two master's degrees in performance and education - you can find him teaching at Reed College in Portland, Oregon as well as conducting ensembles at the Metropolitan Youth Symphony. Currently, Adam is a Powell Flute Artist and Principal flutist of Orchestra Nova NW and appears as a guest artist around the country.
"This is a wonderful time in my career to serve as a board member to NFA, for whom I would not be the same without. This organization’s relentless pursuit in highlighting some of the best performers of multi- generations continues to inspire, educate and provoke boundless thought for a stronger and compassionate community. What I am most excited about in joining the board is sharing our love of the flute through creative programs and initiatives that serve the greater diverse population, while allowing room for new progressive ideas and endeavors. If given the opportunity, I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge and offering several decades of non-profit leadership and global artistic experience to serve NFA’s mission and values."

Alice Kogan Weinreb recently retired from the National Symphony Orchestra after 43 years as second flute. Her first flute teachers were Lois Schaefer and James Pappoutsakis. She received her B.A. from Brandeis University and her M.A. from The American University. She won a Fulbright Fellowship for flute studies with Fernand Caratgé at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris, where she received the premier prix in flute. Alice is a founding member of the Capitol Woodwind Quintet and the Eclipse Chamber Orchestra and performed for 24 summers in the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra at Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She has had many beloved students from the National Symphony Youth Fellowship program and the Catholic University of America. She is featured on recordings of works by Margaret Brouwer, Truman Harris, and David Teie.
"After a lifetime of playing the flute, I can barely remember a time before the flute was my constant companion. In fact, my first daughter once complained that I loved the flute more than I loved her (not true). But it is true that I have had a wonderful time as an orchestral flutist, playing under great conductors and sitting next to great players; as a chamber music player, enjoying the unique role of the flute; and as a teacher, sharing the joys of playing and helping to solve thorny technical problems. I look forward to participating in the shared camaraderie of NFA and fostering great music-making."

"I am honored to be nominated for the NFA Board, and I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to and strengthen my connection to a community that has shaped me so significantly. Music is deeply important to me and my family, and my years studying and performing as a flutist prior to my legal career are foundational to who I am as a person and as a professional today. If elected, serving on the Board will allow me to reconnect with that part of my identity, while bringing my unique perspective to support the NFA’s mission. I bring experience in governance, organizational strategy, and advocacy, and I am particularly interested in how the NFA can continue evolving both in how it serves its members and how it engages new and broader audiences."
