All flutists attending the 2023 NFA Convention in Phoenix are invited to perform in the Usonia Flute Orchestra at the Closing Concert in Symphony Hall on Sunday, August 6, 2023. The Usonia Flute Orchestra will perform Usonia, Jonathan Cohen's tribute to Frank Lloyd Wright. Chris Potter will conduct. To join in the adventure, please sign up when you register for the convention and indicate your instrument (piccolo through double contra).

Flutists must commit to one rehearsal, the dress rehearsal/warm-up on Sunday morning, and the concert itself. In late June, flutists participating will be sent their assigned part and a link containing the music and a computer-generated recording for reference. Pre-registration for the convention ends July 13, 2023. For those who register in July, part assignments and the link will be sent following the deadline.

"Finish the 2023 Convention with a bang and a crash! The Usonia Flute Orchestra will close the Sunday Gala, and you can be a part of the joy and thunder as you and a room full of flutes of all sizes is joined by tympani, crash cymbals, and other percussion, celebrating the majesty, energy, and harmony in the vision of America's great architect, Frank Lloyd Wright."

About Jonathan Cohen

Chris PotterFrom Chris Potter, Conductor of the Usonia Flute Choir

"Join me and over a hundred flutists of all ability levels performing Usonia by Jonathan Cohen to close the 2023 convention! No audition necessary: piccolo through double contra!

As a conductor, working on a new piece is like a treasure hunt: I want to discover all the gems the composer has put there and bring them into the light. I can’t find them without your help! Jonathan will be there playing his contra "Tiny" and will let us know if we are on the right track. See you in Phoenix!"
