Who can become a member of the NFA?

NFA membership is for everyone who plays the flute, regardless of profession, ability level, or age. You can find NFA members playing in the world’s leading orchestras and in your local community flute choir; as students at top conservatories and beginners in a middle school band. We are teachers, performers, composers, flute makers, retailers, and concertgoers of all ages. Our members share one common value: a love of the flute. While  based in the United States, the NFA is a global organization with members in all 50 states and more than 40 countries.

Included in Your NFA Membership:

  • Access to activities such as the annual NFA Convention, competitions, professional development opportunities, and more
  • A subscription to The Flutist Quarterly (the official online publication of the NFA), NAXOS Music Library, and Grove Music Online

Membership Levels

Your membership is valid for 365 days from the day you join. Enroll in auto-renewal to guarantee you never lose your benefits. 

Active Member | $95

Our standard membership level; this includes all membership benefits.

Student Membership | $55

Student members receive the same benefits that active members receive, minus voting rights. To apply for this level, member must be a full-time student at a qualified institution. Student group discounts available for groups of 10 or more. 

Lower Income Membership | $75

For individuals earning <$50,000 annually. Includes all benefits of an Active Membership.

Commercial Membership | $135
For businesses. Commercial Members receive exclusive benefits such as discounted advertising rates, a listing in our website Commercial Members Directory, in addition to the benefits of an Active membership. See here for a complete list. 
Library Membership | $80

Library members receive a subscription to The Flutist Quarterly. Library members do not receive any other NFA mailings or benefits. Your college, university, or local library will have access to all 50 years worth of FQ issues digitally. We highly recommend this for any institution looking to grow their flute research and scholarship database for their students and patrons.

Request The Flutist Quarterly through your EBSCO representative. Your college or university library system would have the information on how to contact them. EBSCO will handle and send us your request. For questions, please contact EBSCO directly https://www.ebsco.com/contact

Life Membership

Support the NFA and lock in lifetime membership to our inspiring community of flutists. When you become an NFA life member, you align yourself with the flute community and the objectives of the NFA.

Being a life member means you're devoted to your path as a flutist, committed to being a part of the rich and diverse flute community, and deeply supportive of our collective work to inspire flutists and enrich lives through scholarships, commissions, conventions, mentorship programs, and other initiatives.

How to Join

Step #1: Create Your Account

Click here to get started. You’ll be prompted to create an account in our Member Portal using your email address and a secure password. This account will allow you to manage your membership, access benefits, and register for events.

Step #2: Complete Your Profile

After creating your account, you’ll be guided through a short profile form. This includes basic information (like your contact details) to help us set up your account. You’ll also have the opportunity to set your communication preferences and choose what emails and updates you’d like to receive from the NFA.

Step #3: Select “Purchase Individual Membership”

Once your profile is complete, a pop-up will appear prompting you to "Purchase Individual Membership.” Click this button to continue to the membership selection process.

Step #4: Choose Your Membership Level & Complete Payment

Select the membership level that best fits you, then proceed to checkout. We currently accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. Please note that American Express is not accepted.

Step #5: You’re All Set!

Once your payment is complete, your membership will be activated immediately. You’ll now have full access to your member profile and all NFA benefits.

Don't forget to enroll in Auto-Renew!

This feature automatically renews your membership each year, so you don't have to worry about losing access to your benefits!

Gift Membership

NFA Gift Memberships are a great way to support the flutists in your life. Recipients will enjoy all the benefits of our standard Active membership. Once purchased, we will set up the recipients membership profile, and they will then receive an email invite to setup their login and other information if they are not already in our system.

10 or more students who join or renew their NFA membership at the same time receive the student membership for 50% off the regular price. Teachers, this is a great option for your studio!
