Junior Flute Choir Competition

The Junior Flute Choir Competition will select young flutists to perform in the Junior Flute Choir at the 2027 NFA Convention in Minneapolis. All entrants must be full-time students during the 2026-2027 academic year and meet the specified age and grade level requirements below.


Competition Requirements*

  • AGE REQUIREMENT: All entrants must meet BOTH of the following requirements:
    • have been enrolled and in good standing as full time students in grades 9-12 or the equivalent during the 2026-2027 academic year.
    • be age 15 or younger on the first day of the convention. Entrants may be required to show proof of age.
  • All flutists must be current NFA members at the time the entry is submitted. If chosen to perform or present during the convention, flutists must also be current members at the time of the convention and register for the convention by July 1, 2027. To join or renew, go to nfaonline.org/signup.
  • Completed entry
  • Uploaded files
  • $65 entry fee (paid during submission process)

All entrants must submit their entry, upload recordings/supplemental materials, and pay competition and membership fees by 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time, Monday, February 15, 2027.


Recorded Round Repertoire

Each piece should be uploaded as a separate file in the following order. All uploaded files must be audio recordings. No videos are allowed.

  • C Flute: Enrique Granados, 4 Spanish Cameos (Edition: Southern Music Co.)
    • Mvts 1 and 2

Entrants wishing to perform on piccolo in the flute choir must add the following to their audition recording in addition to the C-flute repertoire. 

  • Piccolo: Eugene Damare, Tarantelle Op. 391 (Edition: Billaudot)

All Recorded Round repertoire must be recorded with pre-recorded or live piano accompaniment where written.

* Competitions are subject to all rules and regulations on this page as well as the General Competition Information and Rules and Regulations. Incomplete entries will be subject to disqualification.
