Collegiate Flute Choir Competition

 

The Collegiate Flute Choir Competition will select college flutists to perform in the Collegiate Flute Choir at the 2024 NFA Convention in San Antonio. All entrants must be full-time undergraduate students enrolled in an accredited college, university, or conservatory during the 2023-2024 academic year.

This application closed on February 14th, 2024 at 11:59pm Central US Time.


Competition Requirements*

  • All flutists must be current NFA members at the time the entry is submitted. If chosen to perform or present during the convention, flutists must also be current members at the time of the convention and register for the convention by July 1, 2024. To join or renew, go to nfaonline.org/signup.

  • $65 entry fee (paid during submission process)

All entrants must submit their entry, upload recordings/supplemental materials, and pay competition and membership fees by 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time, Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

Recorded Round Repertoire

Each piece should be uploaded as a separate file in the following order. All uploaded files must be audio recordings. No videos are allowed.

  • C flute:  Charles Tomlinson Griffes, Poem, A.93 (any edition)

Entrants wishing to perform on piccolo in the flute choir must add the following to their audition recording in addition to the C-flute repertoire. 

  • Piccolo: Amanda Harberg, Sonata for Piccolo and Piano, I. Allegro, flowing (Theodore Presser)

Entrants wishing to perform on alto, bass, or contrabass in the flute choir need only submit a recording of the corresponding repertoire (C-Flute not required):

  • Alto Flute: Nicole Chamberlain, Flexion (Spotted Rocket)
  • Bass Flute: David Gunn, Lunar Mural 2 (Westleaf Edition). Record with electronic track.
  • Contrabass Flute: Jonathan Cohen, Albisiphonics, I. Early Morning Departure (Nourse Wind Publications)

All Recorded Round repertoire must be recorded with pre-recorded or live piano accompaniment.

* Competitions are subject to all rules and regulations on this page as well as the General Competition Information and Rules and Regulations. Incomplete entries will be subject to disqualification.

Those entering this competition may also may also be eligible to apply for the Frances Blaisdell Scholarship, which provides $1500 toward NFA convention expenses.
