Communications, marketing, arts administration, music education, music and flute students at the bachelor's or master's level are encouraged to apply.

Note: Applications for convention-only internships are accepted via a separate process, opening in March 2027. Convention attendance is not included in the Communications Internship. 

Position Description:

Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Intern will gain hands-on experience as they assist with the NFA’s marketing and communications efforts. The intern will learn to plan, schedule and create content for the NFA’s various channels, including social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram), email marketing (MailChimp), the NFA website, print, newsletters, and more. Interns will complete a portfolio of work that can be used for future job applications. 

The Communications Intern works remotely on a regular weekly schedule during regular office hours (Monday through Friday), as agreed with the Communications Manager.

The following skills are preferred for this internship:

• Strong writing and proofreading ability
• Design skills (familiarity with Canva or similar platform is a plus)
• Proven social media skills (creating content for an organization or your personal account)
• Organizational skills
• Clear communication ability 
• Music knowledge

The National Flute Association is seeking a proofreader to review articles for The Flutist Quarterly before publication (generally December, March, June, September). 

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

• Checking written material for typos and mistakes related to grammar, spelling, punctuation, and word usage
• Tracking changes in a MS Word document
• Verifying correct formatting
• Checking style and language
• Fact-checking dates, claims, and other information
• Flagging any questions/issues for the Editor
• Ensuring content meets editorial guidelines

Candidates should have:

• Strong attention to detail
• Mastery of advanced grammar, spelling, and punctuation rules, and knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word (specifically how to track changes)
• Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
• Research and fact-checking skills
  

Rate: $30/hr. Generally around 20 articles per issue of varying lengths, 15–20 hours per issue.
