In celebration of Pride Month, the National LGBTQIA+ Flute Choir and the National Flute Association Idea Committee are thrilled to announce a national Call for Commission Proposals for a new large-scale work for flute choir to be premiered at the 2028 National Flute Association Convention.
We invite composers of all backgrounds and identities to submit proposals for an original composition that uplifts, reflects, honors, or explores LGBTQIA+ lives, histories, identities, communities, and experiences through music. Whether inspired by queer joy, resilience, activism, historical events, personal narratives, or broader themes of belonging and liberation, this commission seeks to amplify LGBTQIA+ voices through the power of collaborative artistry.
This project represents a continued commitment to equity, representation, and visibility within the flute community and beyond. We are excited to support the creation of a bold and meaningful new work that celebrates the richness and diversity of queer experience.
A Celebration of Pride Through Sound
Music has always been a space for storytelling, resistance, remembrance, and joy. This commission seeks to create a lasting artistic contribution that celebrates LGBTQIA+ communities while expanding the repertoire for flute choir in meaningful and visionary ways.
We encourage proposals that are daring, heartfelt, imaginative, and deeply connected to queer identity and experience. Through this project, we hope to foster collaboration, visibility, and artistic excellence while honoring the many voices that shape our community.
Join us in creating a new work that resonates with pride, authenticity, and possibility.
With Pride,
The National LGBTQIA+ Flute Choir and The National Flute Association Idea Committee
