NFA Activities

The NFA is a global organization, connecting flutists of all levels. Your membership will include:

• A subscription to The Flutist Quarterly, our online publication. Members may also submit articles to be considered for publication.
• Ability to attend the NFA Convention, an annual gathering of thousands of flutists. Members may also submit proposals to perform or present at the convention each year. 
• The opportunity to enter the NFA's annual competitions, which recognize excellence in performance, scholarship, publishing, composition, and creativity.
• Leadership opportunities: members may nominate themselves or others for volunteer leadership roles within the organization, including committee chair, competition judge, or serving on our volunteer board of directors.
• Networking and volunteer opportunities; members can join a committee or hold a volunteer position to further support the flute community.
• Borrowing privileges from the NFA Sheet Music Library, a collection of 15,000+ scores, including rare editions and out-of-print scores.

Commercial Members receive discounted advertising rates, a subscription to The Flutist Quarterly, a listing in our Commercial Members Directory, and the opportunity to exhibit at or attend the annual convention.

The NFA is proud to partner with Naxos Music Library to offer all current NFA members unlimited access to the most comprehensive classical music library online. In conjunction with hundreds of top music labels, it contains titles spanning medieval music to modern, jazz, electronic, world music, pop, rock, and more, making it an unrivaled streaming music library. Naxos Music Library is continuously updated, with new labels added monthly and hundreds of albums added each week.

To Access Your Naxos Subscription:  Members must log in to the Member Portal. On the top menu, click "Membership Benefits," then "NAXOS Access." You will be redirected to the Naxos website and can begin listening!

Grove Music Online

Grove Music Online is the authoritative resource for music research with over 52,000 articles written by nearly 9,000 scholars charting the diverse history, theory and cultures of music around the globe. Based on a work first published in 1879 and updated frequently, Grove has been in continuous publication for over a century and now publishes hundreds of new articles and article revisions each year.

NFA members receive a free subscription to Grove Music Online. 

To access, log in to your Membership Portal. From the top menu, choose "Membership Benefits," then "Grove Access." this will lead you to a landing page with the link to Grove Music Online. Please note that this link will not function if you bookmark it. 

tonebase flute

tonebase is an online education platform that gives you access to the world’s leading classical musicians. A subscription to tonebase flute unlocks 100s of courses from today's leading flutists, with lessons covering fundamentals, technical training, style and interpretation, and more.

NFA members receive a 30% discount on a new tonebase subscription. To access the discount, log in to your Member Portal.

Tomplay Interactive Sheet Music

Tomplay allows you to play your favorite pieces accompanied by high-quality recordings from professional musicians.
