Teddie Talks Traverso: How to Play Baroque Dances on the Traverso

Virtual Event

Description

"My sarabandes get sluggish." "This allemande feels boring." "How can I make this gigue swing more?" "I'm getting confused in this courante!" - If any of these feelings apply to you, I hope you'll join in to get to the root of the issues! Join Teddie Hwang (chair NFA Historical Flutes Committee) in learning about the 4 main dance dances of a baroque suite: Allemande, Sarabande, Courante, and Gigue. Emphasis is placed on practical aspects of playing such as phrasing, articulation, sound production, and the treatment of inequality. We will also examine what are the common technical challenges in each of these dances and learn how to overcome them. ALL FLUTE PLAYERS, regardless modern or baroque, are warmly welcomed!
